The smells of incense and Pine Sol along with the melodies of powerful R&B/Soul singers such as Anita Baker and Mary J Blige were a familiar weekend scene for iamchelseaiam growing up in Cincinnati, OH. Between the influences of her mother and the Baptist church it was hard to escape the music that created the soundtrack for her childhood, which led her to play several instruments.
Currently, with a New York State of Mind and a Midwestern Spirit, Singer/Songwriter iamchelseaiam uses her guitar to deliver melodic riffs, taking audiences on a rhythmic journey. Inspired human connection, every-day conversations & relationships are what drives iamchelseaiam to create music. As a writer she’s had the opportunity to write for The Voice contestant Kenny Araujo, actress Taryn Manning as well as several independent artists. She was recently mentored by Eric Robeson (Musiq Soulchild, Jill Scott, etc) through the ASCAP "The Collective" program. In addition she was apart of the ASCAP Song Accelerator program hosted by Alex Forbes and Valerie Ghent.
Her current project “A Beautiful Mess” (released Spring 2018), is a new sound that is completely different from the singer/songwriter style of her previous release “Live At The Bitter End”. "It’s definitely more rhythmic, heavy basslines and synth elements." says iamchelseaiam. Recently, she completed a 6-city tour visiting Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., New York City, Toronto, Los Angeles and Chicago. Her most recent single "Hurt People II" was listed at number 80 as the "100 Best R&B songs of 2018" by Soul in Stereo and YouKnowIGotSoul.
Philadelphia-born and New York City-raised musician Noni Rene produced her own sound of "Grunge-Soul" while a student at Lincoln University.
In June 2014, she released a joint EP with Washington, DC producer NishoSoul, titled "Coming To Paz". The conceptual Lo-Fi Alternative R&B album is available for streaming and download exclusively at NoniRene.com. The following summer saw the release of her upbeat single “Good Vibes”.
Noni has opened for Hip Hop legends Big Daddy Kane (2013) and Rakim (2014) at the ODUNDE Festival. In 2014, she was the Viewer's Choice to open for Tamar Kali and jessica Care moore at Bedford Stuyvesant's STooPS Festival. In 2015 and 2016, Noni performed as a semi-finalist for the AFROPUNK Battle of the Bands. Also in 2016, Noni Rene was the runner-up in the Queens Library Battle of the Bands. Since, she has performed concerts at several Queens Library locations, and returned to the BOTB twice as a judge.
Currently, Noni performs for Sofar Sounds in multiple cities, and attends The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. She is preparing her upcoming studio release, titled “Un:Nōn” (read: “Unknown”), and leading a US tour of the same title.
On March 28, 2019, Noni Rene is recording an exclusive direct-to-vinyl live session with Leesta Vall Sound Recordings.
"Noni's songs are very relatable and personable, which allows the audience to get lost in her words as they spiral into a parallel universe also known as the mind of 'TheVillageKid.'"
